Apple CEO says he is Proud to be Gay

Today, the CEO of Apple Tim Cook wrote in an essay that he is "proud to be gay and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has ever given me." People around the country have praised Cook for his writing as he now becomes the most prominent homosexual person in corporate America. Cook has always strove to get equal rights for gays and lesbians including denouncing his home state of Alabama saying that they are changing to slowly when dealing with equality. In contemporary America, the latest issue in state as well as church is the rights of homosexual people.

Many companies including Apple, Facebook, and Google participate in the annual pride walk in support of equal rights for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Also, the companies, especially Apple, encourage the hiring of people from this community. Times have certainly changed from the time period set during the Great Gatsby. America has evolved into a country where everyone truly can be happy into their own way and find their own American dream.

  1. Laith, it was intriguing how you also mentioned how the rights of gay people is a prevalent issue in our own Catholic Church. Great job relating to class not only the topic of the American dream but also the time periods. Terrific job!

  2. Laith,
This was an interesting topic which I have first learned about today. Your relation to the Great Gatsby was very well done. Do you think Cook being gay will affect Apple in the upcoming years? Overall, good job.

  3. Laith, I never knew that about Tim Cook. Is this just a recent announcement? I personally don't think that being gay should affect people's views on a company, do you? I also liked your connection to the Great Gatsby. Well done.

  4. Laith,
I never knew this about the CEO of apple and I am not sure about how I feel about it. I guess it is great he finally had the courage to come out about being gay. I still beleive apple to be a great product and intend to continue to use it but I am unsure about the encouragement to hire individuals based on sexual orientation when it should soley be decided on skill and ability to accomplish the job and the company should be indifferent about if they are gay or not.
